City of Spokane Arts Awards Announced
 
The Spokane Arts Commission will present the City of Spokane Arts Awards on Monday, October 1st at 6 p.m. in celebration of National Arts and Humanities month.  Awards will be presented at the Spokane City Council Meeting in the Council Chambers, 808 W. Spokane Falls Boulevard, Spokane (enter through the sliding glass doors on the east side of the building).  This year’s recipients include:
 
  • Individual Artist – Peter Hardie, for continued artistic excellence as Spokane Civic Theatre’s resident scenic/lighting designer and technical director,
  • Arts Organization – Inland Crafts, for its dedicated work towards promoting the appreciation and understanding of contemporary crafts,
  • Arts in Education – Get Lit!, for encouraging a love of literature in people of all ages, and particularly through the Young Writers Program,
  • Individual Benefactor – Sue Bradley, for her generous contributions of time, expertise and finances to all manner of arts activities throughout our community,
  • Business Benefactor – Spokane Teachers Credit Union, for generous community support to a variety of arts organizations including programs of the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture and the Spokane Symphony,
  • Arts Community Leadership – Troy Nickerson, for volunteering abundant talent and resources to help fund raise for many Spokane area non-profits,
  • Special Achievement – Peter Thomas, for coming his love of dinosaurs with his unique talents to educate and delight the Spokane community.
 
Following the Arts Awards presentation, the public is invited to celebrate with award nominees, recipients and supporters at a reception in the Kress Gallery, River Park Square.
