Civic is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Washington State Kaleidoscope Festival in 2011. The State Festival is the first in a series of AACTFest competitions, followed by the Regional and National competitions. Over twelve community theatre companies will participate. In late spring Civic plans to announce the production it will put on for competition.
Civic is no stranger to AACTFest. In 2007 they took home six national awards for their production of Assassins, directed by Troy Nickerson. In addition to claiming the honor of "Second of Festival Productions," they won "Best Actor" for Patrick McHenry-Kroetch's portrayal of John Wilkes Booth, "Best Supporting Actress" for Marianne McLaughlin's portrayal of Sara Jane Moore, "Best Supporting Actor" for George Green's portrayal of Lee Harvey Oswald, "Best Hair and Makeup," and "Best Professional Theatre Recognized by Back Stage Crew."
Civic had previously won the honor of "Best in Nation" for their productions of Lonely Planet in 1999 and Getting Out in 1989, making it the only community theatre in the country to take the title twice.
